Sustainability and environment
Hammerfest Havn is an Eco-Lighthouse certified organisation and shall be a forward-looking, sustainable and environmentally responsible port.
Through the certification, we commit to systematic work on environmental management, continuous improvement and concrete measures that reduce our environmental impact. We are committed to protecting the environment and actively contributing to a more climate-friendly and sustainable maritime sector.
Here are some of our most important measures:

Clean Port
An initiative to clean up and improve the environmental condition of the port areas.
Shore power facilities
We have established shore power facilities at:
- Polarbase (joint quay ownership with Polarbase)
- Leirvika / Hammerfest Terminal
- Industrial quay and fishing quay at Fuglenes
This enables vessels to switch off their engines while berthed, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions and noise.
Environmentally differentiated port fees (ESI and EPI)
- Environmental Ship Index (ESI): Introduced in 2021 for cruise ships. Vessels with lower emissions receive reduced port fees.
- Environmental Port Index (EPI): A model that calculates environmental impact based on actual emissions from each individual vessel in the relevant port.
Guarantee of origin for electricity
We offer electricity with a guarantee of origin, ensuring that the energy is produced in an environmentally friendly and responsible manner.
Accessibility Award 2022
Hammerfest Havn received the Accessibility Award for our work with universal design and inclusion. The award aims to help remove society-created barriers for people with disabilities.
